When did I join WestWon?
Hi, I’m George. I first met WestWon at a careers day whilst a student at the local Bucks New University. Having studied Business Management, I was desperate to get a job with a business where I could learn about a business and begin my career. WestWon were recruiting for an administration assistant role at the careers day and I approached them to discuss the role. I attended a couple of interviews for the job a couple of weeks later and to my delight I was awarded the role to start a week after my studies finished. Fresh out of university I was keen to learn and although it took me a couple of months to get my head around leasing, it soon caught on and I was away.
What was it like when I first joined?
I was fortunate enough to be managed by Carol McNamara, who heads up our operations department. Carol’s been in the leasing industry 30 + years and is a fountain of knowledge, whenever anyone had a technical question, Carol was the point of contact so I was in good hands.
With my leasing knowledge growing, I moved from department to department, first working in operations, then sales and marketing. Sales was great for me as it gave me the opportunity to build relationships with other people, which I love doing, but also it helped me come out of my shell as I was a quiet person prior to joining WestWon. After a few years I started managing departments and eventually became a director of WestWon in 2021. My focus is now on continuing to move the company forward and keep us at the forefront of all things leasing and asset finance.
What have I learnt?
The beauty of working for a SME (Small & Medium sized enterprise) is you really get to see how a business is run in great detail. At WestWon we don’t hide our successes or failures from our team, if we’re having a good or bad month/year, everyone knows. This has its positives and negatives, but it’s nice knowing where you are as a company and help us all pull towards the same goal. All members of the team are encouraged to come to the senior management team with ideas for the business, many of which are implemented.
Why WestWon?
Working for WestWon has been incredible for my career and for myself personally. WestWon highlights personal development, we have a meeting room filled with personal development books, we’re actively encouraged to take these books home and read. WestWon are great to have as an employer. 9 years on at the time of writing and I’m still technically in my ‘first job’ and I couldn’t be happier. WestWon truly has an amazing culture and looks after their employees well, many of us have been here well over 5 years, with some working for the company 10 + even 20 + years!
I couldn’t think of working anywhere else. If you’re interested in a role at WestWon I’d be happy to have a discussion with you about the company in further detail, it would be worth your time.
