If you are looking for a lease car, then there is an abundance of lease companies with lease calculators out there to help you figure out the financing. Simply input the annual mileage, the deposit and term you would like, and just like that, up pops a rental quotation. To make things even easier, there are so many car finance websites out there, you can very quickly get a comparison from a range of potential suppliers.
However, when it comes to laptops, PCs and other IT technology, this same task is not as simple. In the UK, you have three types of organisations selling computers – manufactures, distributors and resellers. Their routes to market vary; so, for example, Dell sell direct to the end user and via resellers. Other manufacturers only sell to a distributor who, in turn, sells to a reseller. Hence, we see a disjointed approach for leasing IT when compared to vehicles.
Where does this leave the company wanting to acquire a computer through a lease?
Although some manufactures promote a lease or rental price, in reality, very few do. The Dell website presently only illustrates a “cash price.” To see a rental price, or even to use a leasing calculator, you need to speak with them directly. Many other computer resellers, computer dealers or value-added resellers as they are also called, may talk about computer leasing on their website. However, very few will have a lease calculator.
Computer lease calculators will only ever give a rough guide to the monthly rental figure. They depend upon you being able to input the capital cost. Often, you will not know the exact price. There are often two pricing matrixes – one for companies trading less than three years and another for companies trading over three years. This makes sense, because rates are normally higher for companies who have only recently begun trading.
Lease companies, like ours, will need to consider several additional points. What is the credit like for your business? How much software is in the transaction? What is the make of the PC or IT equipment? Who do you want to buy it from? Hence, even though you may get an instant leasing quote online, there is no guarantee this will be the final rental you will end up paying.
For these reasons, you won’t often see many computer equipment suppliers promoting a computer lease calculator. Having said that, WestWon does have an online offering.
WestWon created our own lease calculator. It has been designed to calculate monthly lease repayments for deals up to £100,000.00, between one and five years in duration. Our calculator splits companies trading up to three years and those trading longer. It might not always be 100% accurate, but it does allow our prospect customers the opportunity to get a good indication as to what they should be paying for a computer lease.
