Nobody knows for sure exactly how many scaffolding companies there are in the UK. We have a list of 2921 companies, of which we are aware of 2170 still trading. Over the last month, we have been contacted by a building company setting up a new scaffolding company. We believe there are around 2500 scaffolding companies in the UK at the moment that are trading.
The best companies to obtain a list of all scaffolding companies in the UK are the suppliers to the scaffolding sector, software companies that work with scaffolders and the Scaffolding Association based in Evesham. However, none of these companies – rightly so – would either sell us their list or allow us to use theirs. Taking a look at the data, we can see the following things:
Essex is the county with the highest number of scaffolding companies with 147, in popular towns such as Colchester and Romford. This is over 50% more than the entire of Scotland who has 96 scaffolding companies.
The south coast is a popular location, there are four main counties with a high number of scaffolding companies. Hampshire and Dorset have over 100, whilst Devon and Cornwall combine to have 105 scaffolding companies.
