Scaffolders needing a new ULEZ compliant vehicle
WestWon are currently talking to more and more Scaffolding Contractors who are having to update their fleet of trucks. Not out of choice, but due to the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). All vehicles of all shapes and sizes that do not meet the ULEZ requirements will be penalised.
What is the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)?
Diesel vehicles will have to meet the more stringent Euro 6 emission standard, or a rather hefty fee will be levied: £12.50 for cars, vans, and motorcycles, or £100 for buses, coaches, and HGVs exceeding 3,500kg. Meaning most Scaffolding Contractors will be affected.
When is this coming into action?
As of the 8th April 2019 the T-Charge in London is being replaced with the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). This new regulation will be enforced 24 hours a day for 7 days a week.
The penalties for scaffolding vehicles
• Daily charge – £100
• Penalty charge £1000 (unless paid within 14 days, reduces it to £500)
