The person

To apply for this role you will ideally have at least one year’s experience in a commercial customer-facing role, for example estate agency, and be able to demonstrate financial acumen, excellent client service skills and competent IT skills.

You will be equally happy dealing with customer and prospects face-to-face and on the phone, and will be motivated by working in a target-driven role. As well as a strong individual performer, you will also be a team player and keen to contribute to the continuing growth of the company. How To Calculate the APR on a Leasing Deal?

If you are considering leasing v buying your business equipment, the next step is usually to look at your available leasing options in some detail. At this stage, it is very helpful to know how to calculate the APR (Annual Percentage Rate) on a leasing deal.

How Much Interest Am I paying On My Leasing Deal?

In order to calculate the APR on a leasing agreement, you need to know:

  1. The capital value of the equipment
  2. The Term over which you wish to lease and lease profile
  3. The lease rental payment
Sample Lease Cost Calculation

Let’s look at a typical equipment leasing example:

  • The equipment you wish to acquire is a computer system with a Capital Cost of £10,000.00
  • The lease rental agreement is based on 36 monthly repayments with one month payable on delivery
  • The quoted lease rental payment is £320.00 per month

In this example, the total rental repayments come to £11,520.00, comprising of the Capital Cost of £10,000 plus total interest of £1,520.

Working out the Leasing Deal APR

The next step is to work out what the flat rate interest is on your deal. To do this you simply divide the total interest payable by the number of years. In our example:

  • Interest of £1,520.00 over three years equals £506.70 per year.
  • Divide this annual figure of £506.70 by the Capital Cost of your equipment; in this case £10,000. This gives you a flat interest rate of just over 5%.
  • The APR is roughly twice the flat rate, hence the APR in our  example is 10%

It is an age old problem that business owners have. You recruit good talent, you train the person and educate them in the way of doing business, helping them to build quality personal relationships with customers and suppliers, only to find they leave to set up their own company in competition.

Whilst some business owners  do not like this, we take a more pragmatic approach. Clearly the individual was good whilst they worked with you, otherwise it would not have been a problem anyway. And if they wish to leave, surly it is better for them to start their own business than join the competition. In the furniture leasing and computer leasing sectors, more often than not, you can work with your competition as opposed to against them.

Wyse Leasing has seen a number of successful leasing brokers set up locally to the offices in Chesham. Plus Finance from Chesham, is one such example. Plus Finance works predominantly in the office furniture leasing sector. Plus Finance is now a well-known and respected furniture leasing company run by ex-Wyse Leasing employees, Nicki Matthews and Steve Pullen.

Based just down the road in Amersham, you have Baker Leasing Limited, run by the charismatic Charles Baker. Charles Baker was a top performing sales person at Wyse Leasing and went on to set up his own company working mostly with computer resellers and helping them with their computer leasing needs.

Then you have Intega Asset Finance Limited based in Hyde Heath, a few miles from Chesham. Glyn Meredith was another ex Wyse Leasing employee that has set up his own leasing company.

There are a few more examples of companies that have been born out of Wyse Leasing. We all still speak to each other and all still get on well, even though we are in competition with each other.

Everything You Need to Know About Interest Free Leasing Deals

Is there such a thing as an interest free leasing deal?

The simple answer is no. After all, thinking about it logically, why would a leasing company provide you with money for free?  Yet some do appear to be offering interest free equipment leasing options. How can this be?

More About Interest Free Leasing Deals

Firstly, most interest free deals are subsidised by either the equipment manufacturer or the equipment reseller. They use this ‘marketing twist’ to entice the customer to buy their stock and are, in effect, offering the customer a blind discount. For this reason, an interest free leasing agreement can – and often does – represent excellent value for customers. And WestWon has run numerous interest free leasing offers on behalf of suppliers, who are looking for a new, modern way to promote their products.

How Does Interest Free Business Equipment Leasing Work?

In simple terms, if a supplier or manufacturer wishes to sell equipment with a capital value of £12,000.00+VAT on an interest free lease finance basis over three years, the lease payment would typically be £1,000.00+VAT per quarter. That equates to £12,000.00+VAT over the course of the whole lease.  So apparently interest free….

However, not quite so … the supplier invoices the leasing company upfront for the equipment as per the normal process, but, in our example, for the reduced amount of £10,500.00+VAT rather than the full capital cost of £12,000+VAT.  The leasing company then bases the lease payments due on the discounted figure of £10,500+VAT, and thus still makes circa £1,500.00+VAT in interest on the deal.  As customers only see the lease agreements they make with the leasing company and not the invoice from the supplier to the leasing company, they are typically unaware of the underlying supplier discount that enables the leasing deal to work.

Is This Type Of Lease Agreement a Good Deal For Customers?

There is absolutely nothing wrong in this type of offer and, in fact, it usually represents excellent value for the customer, who obtains the benefit of the equipment immediately while paying for it over its useful life. The supplier gains a new customer and the leasing company receives interest on the deal as normal.

One thing worthy of note is that technically with an interest free lease agreement, title (ownership) of the equipment should pass to the customer at the end of the lease, so interest free deals are often put together on a lease purchase as opposed to a lease rental basis.
